Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General for National Sports Authority (NSA) has said that plans are in place to prevent persons or people who are caught perpetrating crime or causing violence at any sports center owned and managed by government.
He said the NSA is a body mandated to develop and maintain sporting facilities in the country and would do everything possible to protect the people who use these facilities as well.
Professor Twumasi, who was giving a speech at the 18th commemoration ceremony of the May 9, 2001 disaster that led to the death of about 127 football fans at the Accra sports stadium noted that NSA would deny access of its facility to hooligans, by liaising with the right bodies to work towards that.
“We wish to use this platform to condemn these unfortunate incidents and further send a strong message to all fans, that the NSA will deny those found guilty of such acts access to our facility.
“We also expect that these culprits are made to face the full rigour of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
We will also strengthen our working relations with the law enforcement agencies to ensure that life and property are protected during football matches” he said.
