The International Games and Competitions Committee (IGCC) has announced that Ghana will be represented at the 2019 Africa Games by 91 athletes selected from 14 sports disciplines. This came to light at a press conference held at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
Prof Peter Twumasi, Chairman of the IGCC told the media at the conference that the athlete contingent will travel in the company of 48 officials made up of coaches representatives from the selected federations.
Ghana will participate in 14 disciplines at the Games.
They are athletics, badminton, beach volley, boxing, cycling, fencing, football, weightlifting, judo, karate_do, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis and tennis.
Prof Twumasi who doubles as CEO of the National Sports Authority (NSA) said the disciplines were selected based on the prospect of their respective athletes. He assured that the IGCC has given the contingent the needed support to perform, adding that, ‘the onus now lies on them to perform to win medals for the nation.’ He revealed that the teams are camping peacefully at their respective basis in Accra and Cape Coast until they depart for the Games which begins on August 19.
