NSA, YEA Sign MOU To Support Athletes

The National Sports Authority (NSA) and The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) on Wednesday 8th July 2020, signed an agreement that seeks to support some elite athletes from various sporting associations in Ghana.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the YEA Mr. Justin Kodua, the package is to allow elite sportsmen and women to make ends meet in this difficult times. He also stated that the assistance forms part of the government’s stimulus package meant for the sporting industry during Covid-19 pandemic era which the YEA will provide this needed support for six months, subject to review. Mr. Kodua however, added that the contract will be terminated in the event of any breach in the provisions made in the agreement.

The Director General of NSA, Professor Peter Twumasi commended the Government and the YEA for the initiative which he said will go a long way to ensure the welfare of Ghanaian athletes. He also urged corporate organizations to emulate this kind gesture in order to promote and develop sports in Ghana.

He further assured the YEA that, his outfit will ensure a fair disbursement of the funds to deserving athletes from the various federations recognized by the NSA. 

Individual beneficiaries under this programme will receive GH¢500.00 each month directly after they have been approved by the NSA.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Board chairman of YEA Hon. Sammy Awuku, Board chairman of NSA Hon. Kwadjo Baah Agyemang, the President of the GFA Mr. Kurt Okraku, the representative of the Minster of Youth and Sports Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah. Also present were Presidents of the Ghana Paralympic Committee and the Ghana Olympic Committee Mr. Samson Deen and Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah respectively.
