On 12th August 2020, 12th August 2020, The Director-General of National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi joined his colleague CEO from Middle Belt Development Authority, Hon Joe Danquah, to carry out a technical assessment of the Nkawkaw Stadium to pave way for the sod-cutting to renovate the stadium which has been abandoned for over two decades. This forms part of the Government’s extensive sports infrastructure development with 10 new stadiums nearing completion.
The renovation work at Nkawkaw will include construction of a FIFA standard pitch, Olympic standard 8-lanes athletic oval (tartan tracks), multipurpose courts, spectator stands, dressing rooms and offices will be funded by the Middle Belt Development Authority from Government’s One Million Dollar per constituency fund.
It is expected that the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Isaac Asiamah, after receiving the technical report will lead to cut sod for the project to take off within next three weeks. Also present for the technical assessment of the site which turned out to be favourable place for the project included NSA Eastern Regional Director, Mrs Gifty Fianu, Deputy CEO of MBDA, Lawyer Joyce Boateng, and Managing Director of Greengrass Technology Mr Frank Boahen.
