On Monday, June 7, 2021, The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi represented the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif in the 1st Technical Workshop of the African Union for the organization of the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana in 2023.
The visiting AU Sports Technical Team led by Mr Stanley Mutoya, Chief Executive Officer of African Union Sports Council Reign 5, are in the country to assess the progress of work in the hosting of the Games as well as conducting training and orientation workshop for Ghana’s Local Organizing Committee Members. The team made up of various nationals including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mali, Cameron and Algeria, arrived in the country on June 4.
They have already begun tours within various cities to inspect stadium and other facilities which will form part of the Games Villages, and they expressed great satisfaction. These stadiums included Accra Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. The AU team encouraged Ghana to maintain the pace of work at the various construction sites to achieve great success in hosting the prestigious continental games involving 54 African nations. The Sector Minister on behalf of the Government assured the organizers of Ghana’s preparedness and commitment to successfully host the games as she did in the grand hosting of the 2008 AFCON.
