On Wednesday, November, 24, 2021 the Ashanti Regional Directorate of National Sports Authority (NSA) commenced a three day workshop with the introduction of Rugby League and other games in the Ashanti Region.
The three day workshop, which is taking place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will end on Friday November 26, 2021.
The core mandate of the workshop is aimed at offering education and developing Rugby League from the grass root level in the Region.
Mr Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, Acting (Ag.) Regional Director of NSA who leads the hosting of the workshop introduced his team from the NSA during his welcoming address.
The team namely; the Deputy Director General (Technical), Mr Kwame Amponfi Jnr. Head of Education, Training and Research Unit, Dr. Enoch Baa, Mr Frank Boahen, Green grass Technology CEO and Mr Michael Okoto, Physical Education (P.E) coordinator Ghana Education Service (GES)
The Deputy Director General (Technical) of NSA, Mr Amponfi, who represented the Director General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi in his opening remarks stated, the workshop is important because the legislative instrument (LI) with the Sports Act 2016 is going to place huge requirement in the development and promotion of sports and so, sports associations and other allied agencies will ensure that, only professionals get closer to sports development and promotions.
He added, the Legislative Instrument will mandate the authority to penetrate both public and private sports to access any sports product like coaching, training and the rest of the other sports professionals who are certified sports professionals.
The workshop saw over 50 coaches, officials and physical education teachers being offered lectures, and videos to highlight on the origin of Rugby and how Rugby league is being played.
The resources persons from the Rugby League Federation Ghana who came to do the introduction included, Mr Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, General Manager Rugby League Federation Ghana, Mr Marshall Nortey, Technical Director, Madam Hilaria Wuaku, Communications Manager and Mr Julius Amevor Rugby League Coach NSA.
After the lecture, the participants together with the resource persons went to the field to do the practical aspect of what they had learned on Wednesday.
The workshop is expected to continue on Thursday before being climaxed on Friday, November 26, 2021.
