Inauguration Of The Sub-committee Of The Loc For The 13th African Games, Accra 2023

The Minister for Youth and Sports duly inaugurated the Sub-Committee under the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games Accra 2023 today at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Executive Chairman of the LOC, Dr. Kwaku Asare in his welcoming address stated that the purpose of the meeting was to inaugurate the Sub-Committee for the 2023 African games. He disclosed that, the LOC was set up by the President in October 12, 2020 as part of the requirement from the African Union.There are 18 Sub-Committee out of which 7 was inaugurated today and the rest will be done in phases. He stated that the (7)seven sub-committee namely: Marketing and Sponsorship, Media and Communication, Technical sub-committee, Legacy sub-committee, Medical and Antidoping ,Legal Sub-committee and the Financing and Ticketing sub-committee will see to the implementation of task at the various stages.

He disclosed that many countries had bided for this offer to host the African games but Ghana was given that honor and thanked HE the President for his support to get the protocol agreement signed. He extended gratitude to the Parliamentary committee and the Foreign Affairs Ministry for their support. He mentioned that, finances have been allocated for the facilities at Borteyman to be worked on and his hopeful that it will be completed before the games starts.

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, in his submission expressed his gratitude to H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo for his supports and commended the organizing committee. He said that Ghana was awarded this bid in the year 2018 and the President put up the LOC in 2020 to ensure a smooth sailing of the project. He stated that a total of 55 African team will be representing with over 8000 athletes into the nation. He urged the media to use their platform to help communicate in a positive way to the world .He also tasked the other sub-committees to equally work to achieve the mandate set.

The Chairman of the Finance sub-committee, Mr. Andrew Sam in his acceptance speech thanked the President for the mandate given them and assured him of their willingness to work diligently and excellently to leave a legacy to be admired.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi and his able vice the Deputy Director General-Technical, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr. and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
