NSA Bono East Region, Hosts its Maiden Sporting Event!

The National Sports Authority, Bono East Region has taken off with exhilarating speed as the directorate held its first sporting event on Friday, 26th November 2021. Bono East Region is the first out of the newly created Regions to achieve this meritorious feat.

The Bono East Regional Sports Authority in partnership with the Benkadi Association, Kintampo organized a Cross-country Event and other activities including squash and wrestling.
The Competition was held at Kintampo under the theme: UNITING BONO EAST THROUGH SPORTS

Athletes from all over the region clenched the opportunity to compete and represent the Region at the forthcoming National Cross-country at Akim Oda in February 2021.

Segbobi Belinda with a time of 00:37:49 finished first amongst the females in the 10.5km race and was given a tough chase by Sherifa Moro who finished second with a time of 00:38:09. Abdulai Ramatu occupied the third position with a time of 38.17.

The men’s race was a highly competitive one. Samuel Awini popularly called Pastor outrun his competitors to top the male side with an outstanding time of 00:30:04. David Nakousi followed closely with a time of 00:31:04, placing second. Hamza Amidu booked the third spot with time 00:32:11.

The Top 10 athletes in both male and female categories were presented, with their Cash Prizes and trophies and medals at the climax of the week-long festival celebration.

The Paramount Chief of the Wangara Community in Kintampo, Nana Fanyinamah III, in his speech also encouraged the athletes and asked them to work hard on their talents and engrave their names into the History books of Ghana as well as projecting Kintampo. Nana Fanyinamah III said that, “just as the name of Legendary Baba Yara, who is a son of Kintampo is known across the country and is even named after one of Ghana’s stadiums, you should also nourish your God-given talents to achieve this height”

In a speech read by Mr. Sani Mohammed Raphic, Ag. Bono East Regional Director for and on behalf of The Director – General of the NSA Pof. DR. Ir. Peter O. Twumasi and the Bono East Directorate, he emphasized that, the Sports Authority has a core mandate which is to organize, develop and promote all sports of all forms therefore he, together with his team, will work diligently to project, promote and develop sporting disciplines such as, Athletics, Tennis, Badminton, hockey to mention a few to ensure that no one is left out in their quest to pursue sports as a career.

“The 4th edition of the NSA National Cross-country event presents an opportunity for Athletes to justify their inclusion into the Ghana National team to represent the country at the Commonwealth Games, 2022 in Birmingham, a chance to be part of 2023 All African Games to be hosted here in Ghana and ultimately the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. These international events are all up for grabs if you believe in yourself, focus on your craft and train hard to achieve this end” Mr. Mohammed Raphic to the athletes.

The Ag. Bono East Regional Director also expressed his appreciation to the people of Kintampo and the Wangara community for their immense support before, during and after the program. He also thanked the hardworking and dynamic Director-General for National Sports Authority, Prof. Ig. Dr. Peter O. Twumasi for his support and direction as it was an integral part of the success of the event.
