Basketball Federation Pays Courtesy Call On Director General Of NSA

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Vice President of the Ghana Basketball Federation, Alex Kukula and a representative from the Lithuania Basketball University, Jonas Vainaukas paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi.

The purpose of the meeting was to emphasize on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the University on their initiative to render technical support to the Basketball Federation in Ghana.

Director General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi commended the African Director, Richard Borsah of the International Basketball University for connecting such an innovative program to the country and also, for being a very important asset in the basketball fraternity.

He again thanked the Lithuania University for considering Ghana for such an important partnership. He called on all Stakeholders, Embassies and Authorities to also emulate such gesture in the other discipline. He stated that, Ghana is considered as a sports country and has great potentials and so, he will urge all to support and promote sports to the outside world.

The NSA Boss indicated that, the MOU seeks to address challenges at the grassroot level. He then assured them of the NSA’s support in implementing what is outlined in the agreement. He further mentioned that, the NSA has branches in all the 16 regions in the country that are well equipped hence, the Authority is willing to offer its facilities for their training sessions. Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Director-Technical, Madam Vivian stated, she is hopeful the initiative will progress to a stage where we can proudly boast of a national team emerging from it.

According to her, the NSA is willing to provide every support to ensure success within the fraternity. The Lithuania Rep, Jonas Vainaukas disclosed, this was his first footprint in Africa and he is hopeful, everything stated per the agreement goes well. However, measures will be put in place to forestall any short falls in order to ensure, everything is carried out as planned.

The Vice President of the Ghana Basketball Federation also added that plans are underway to get a national team formed as soon as possible.
