The Ahafo Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority (NSA), on Saturday January 15, 2022 organized its maiden Cross Country as part of the region’s preparation ahead of the national cross country scheduled for February 19, 2022 at Akim Oda. Held at the Goaso Town Park, the theme for the event was “Building Ahafo Through Sports”.
Both male and female athletes, from all the 6 districts clenched the opportunity to compete in this year’s regional event with the aim of getting selected to represent Ahafo region at the forthcoming national cross country.
For the male category, Teye James finished first with a time of 37.55 in the 12km race but he was given a tough chase by Atiah John, who came second with a time of 37.56.
Kankam Samuel also placed third with a time of 37.59.
For the ladies, Zanties Hannah won the race with a time of 54.30 and she was followed by Salamatu Ayuba who clocked a time of 59.37.
Owusuah Francisca took the third position when she finished with a time of 65.01.
All the participants received certificates of participation while the top 6 athletes in both the male and female categories were presented with certificate of merit, medals, souvenirs from cowbell and MTN.
The maiden cross country event in Ahafo was graced with the presence of Goaso Omanhene Nana Akwasi Bosompra, Chief Agyemang (CEO Agyengo Sports), Mr Foster Opoku Boakye (NSA Bono Ag Director), Mr Festus Boffah (NSA Ahafo Ag Director), Mr Daniel Kwakye Okoro (Hope Tennis), Imoro Fuseini ( Ahafo Athletics President) and PE Coordinators in the region.
The Omanhene of Goaso, Nana Akwasi Bosompra in his speech encouraged the Athletes and asked them to work hard on their talents and engrave their name into the history books of Ahafo and Ghana as a whole.
He went further to promise the selected team that will represent the region during the national cross country a handsome package.
The Ag. Ahafo Regional Director, Mr Festus Boffah expressed his appreciation to the good people of Goaso and Ahafo for their immense support before, during and after the program.
He thanked the hard-working Director General of NSA, Prof Peter Twumasi for his contribution, support and guidance.
