The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) yesterday February 16, 2022 paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Prof.Peter Twumasi, to introduce some team members to him across different countries and to equally thank him for NSA’s unflinching support towards Armwrestling in Ghana.
Speaking at the meeting,The President of GAF, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey disclosed that, his team were here in Ghana for the Joint Technical meeting of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the African games.
He again went on to brief the meeting of their outstanding performances so far and explained that, as it stands now Ghana has the best Arm-wrestler in the continent. He added that, they are trying to negotiate with the LOC to make it a competitive sports that will be embraced by many.
Prof.Peter In his submission placed emphasis on NSA’s mandate by law to develop and promote sports and as such ready to establish a good relationship with every other federation and beyond. He also mentioned that since Ghana is privileged to host this year’s African games, it will be best to showcase and market Ghana very well by participating and winning many medal to our advantage. He advised that Ghana can improve also by training more referees and coaches.
The Secretary General of the World Armwrestling Federation- Mircea Simionescu-Simicel also stated that Ghana has very great potential and ready to host international tournaments and championship games as per requirement. He further stated the impact this will have on NSA and the economy of Ghana. He explained that, despite the challenges Africans face when it comes to visa issuance, he vehemently believes that Ghana has all it takes to get far.
Husseini Akuetteh Addy- Director for Training in Africa equally calls for local support for the game which has won Ghana many medals.
Present at the meeting were the Deputy Director General-Technical/NSA, Mr Kwame Ampofi Jnr and the Vice President for Africa Armwrestling Federation, Samuel Jackson
