On Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, Officers from the Enforcement, Investigations and Compliance (EIC) Unit of the Right to Information (RTI) Commission had a sensitization programme for staff of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Head Office and Greater Accra Directorates respectively. The RTI officers educated staff members on the right to access information with reference to the RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989) as citizens, public sector workers and the Authority.
The RTI officers engaged the staff with an in-depth presentation on the principles and importance of the RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989), providing comprehensive insight into how the law empowers individuals to access information, fostering transparency and accountability within Public Institutions.
Topics covered included Compliance, Exemptions, the RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989), information on the role of the Commission, application request, deadlines among other topics.
The interactive session also allowed staff to ask questions, which were addressed by the RTI Officers, ensuring that all staff members present left with a clearer understanding of their rights and the processes involved in exercising them.
The Deputy Director General of NSA, Mr. Majid Bawa who was also present at the programme, expressed gratitude in his keynote address to the staff for their participation and commended the RTI Officers for their thorough and impactful presentation. He highlighted the importance of such sensitization efforts and announced plans to extend the program to other NSA Regional Directorates in the country.
This initiative aims at ensuring that all NSA staff nationwide are well informed about their right to information and to apply same to request from the general public.
