Friday, May 9, 2025, the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Mr. Samson Deen and delegation(s) from the African Paralympic Committee (APC) paid a courtesy call to the Director General, Mr. Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah (NSA)
In his opening address, the DG warmly welcomed the team and sought their purpose for the visit. “Sports is the heartbeat of our nation,” he declared, “and today, we gather to strengthen that heartbeat, especially for our para-athletes.” He acknowledged the NPC’s critical role and commended the APC for their continental leadership in para-sports. The NPC President, Mr. Samson Deen, a seasoned administrator with a reputation for transformative leadership, responded warmly.
“This meeting is more than a courtesy call,” he said. “It’s the beginning of a stronger partnership to elevate Ghana’s sports—particularly for our athletes with disabilities.”
He further outlined their mission—to forge a closer alliance with the NSA. He spoke of the NPC’s origins in 2007, its evolution, and the need for sustained collaboration. “Sports development is a collective effort,” he stressed. “We must move beyond challenges like funding and focus on innovation.”
“Charity begins at home,” Mr Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah remarked. “Your leadership brings fresh perspective, and the NSA is ready to support you fully.”
He acknowledged funding hurdles but remained optimistic. “If we work together, we can attract more sponsors, more opportunities.”

Mr. Samson Deen then laid out bold plans set for the game in November 2025 as 1st Open Para Games coinciding with the NPC’s General Assembly in Ghana.
However, he highlighted a major hurdle, thus athlete classification, a costly but essential process for para-athletes to compete internationally.
“We need NSA’s facilities and expertise to make this happen,” he said. “Our athletes deserve the same recognition and support as their able-bodied counterparts.”
The DG’s response was resolute. “Sports should unite us, not divide,” he affirmed. He praised the NPC’s resilience and pledged NSA’s full backing. “We will ensure your requests receive prompt attention. Together, we can make Ghana a powerhouse in para-sports.”
Mr. Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah concluded with an atmosphere charged with optimism and promises solidified.
The NPC and NSA had taken the first step toward a historic partnership—one that would redefine para-sports in Ghana.
