Accra, May 15, 2025— The leadership of the Ghana Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Association paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, at his office to express appreciation and discuss the future of MMA in Ghana.
The meeting opened with a note of gratitude from the MMA Association led by the president, Mr. Jef Taylor to the Director-General for the Authority’s support during the recent Global Warrior MMA Championship. According to the association, this backing was crucial in ensuring the event’s success and cementing Ghana’s growing reputation in the International MMA scene.

The association also took the opportunity to request additional support from the NSA to facilitate its development initiatives. Key requests included access to office space, provision of personnel, and financial assistance to enable the association to expand its operations and outreach.
Looking ahead, the Ghana MMA Association revealed an ambitious roadmap aimed at building the sport’s infrastructure and capacity in Ghana. Plans include the establishment of a dedicated national training facility, the launch of technical training programs for referees and coaches, and the development of local talent to compete at international levels.

“Our goal is not just to promote the sport, but to build careers, create professionals, and position Ghana as a key player in the global MMA community,” said President Jef Taylor.
As part of its forward-looking agenda, the association also announced that preparations are underway for the next Global Warrior MMA Championship scheduled for September. The team hopes the upcoming event will further establish Ghana as a regional hub for mixed martial arts in West Africa.
In response, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah commended the association for its vision and reaffirmed the Authority’s readiness to support the development of MMA in Ghana. He acknowledged the sport’s growing popularity and potential to contribute significantly to the country’s sports landscape.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between the NSA and the Ghana MMA Association, with both parties optimistic about the future of the sport in Ghana.
