A contingent of Athletes from The Ghana Fencing Association on Wednesday, 11th March 2020 paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The visit according to Mr. Mohammed Mahadi, the President of the Association, was to present medals the team won from the just-ended 2020 Africa Junior Cadet Championship that was held in Cape-Coast. He added that the Ghanaian team won two silver medals and seven bronze medals.
The Director-General congratulated the team for the successes achieved at the tournament and further commended the national executives for their gender and regional balance in the team adding that doing so will help motivate the younger ones to dedicate their time to the sport. He also called on corporate organizations to come on board to help unearth talents for the various associations as the country seeks to host successful African games in 2023.
Ghana hosted over 200 athletes in the competition with Team Ghana placing third on the medal table whiles Egypt and Algeria emerged 1st runner up and the overall best team respectively.
