UHAS to Establish School of Sports And Exercise Medicine

The School of Sports and Exercise Medicine from UHAS (University of Health and Allied Sciences) yesterday made presentation of their findings to the Director General of National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi, in a project conducted by the scientists to establish health and nutritional fitness of our boxers drawn from Ghana Boxing Association and Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation.

The team of medical and nutritional researchers made stunning revelations in the maiden research to produce health and nutritional baseline data on our athletes. The researchers believe that by assessing individuals for qualities required for a particular sports, people who will otherwise not dream about developing their inherent talents would be identified and recruited into teams. This will expand the unearthing of talents beyond the traditional zone of sports enthusiasts.

The National Sports Association (NSA) in 2019 established partnerships with research and medical institutions to improve athlete’s health for the overall enhancement of athlete’s performance. The Authority has also revised its Scheme of Service to create Health Department to oversee establishment of Sports Clinics and Hospitals in all regions to serve our athletes and officials, and the general public.
