Executives of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) paid a two-day working visit to the National Sports Authority (NSA) on 20-21 April 2021 to discuss various matters affecting the sport with the Director-General of the Governmental Agency for sports, Prof Peter Twumasi. The Association apologized to the leadership of the Authority over some disagreements and infractions including misconduct of some cited officers of GAA and further appealed for an improved working relationship between both parties to ensure effective development of athletics in Ghana.
The Association enumerated various competitions that Ghana will be participating including the forthcoming Poland qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the global Games itself this summer. The National Sports Authority assured GAA of its support to facilitate the team’s travel to these important competitions. The DG advised GAA to take interest in the grassroots development of athletics across the country and partner with the Agency and Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of the government’s plans to reinvigorate school sports.
Present at the meetings were First Vice President of GAA, Mr Ababu Afelebiek, Second Vice Chairperson of GAA, Dr (Mrs) Harriet Amui, newly appointed Board member of GAA, Mr Charles Osei Assibey, Mr Bawa Fuseini, Francis Arthur Esq. and Management members of NSA, Mr Albert Papa Asante (Ag Head HRM) and Mr Jeffrey Owusu Manza (Ag Head of Technical).
