[2020 Tokyo Olympics]: Ghana’s Sulemanu Tetteh Reaches Round 16 Of Men’s Boxing Flyweight Division

29 year-old captain of the Black Bombers of Ghana, Sulemanu Tetteh has qualified to the round of 16 in the Men’s Flyweight Division (48-52kg) at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. 

In the early hours of Monday July 26, 2021, the Black Bombers captain defeated Dominican Republic international Marte De La Rosa on a split 3-2 decision to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Tetteh got out to a bad start, but he fought well in the second round, displaying excellent technique and applying persistent pressure to win the fight at the round of 32 stage.

Sulemanu, who won a silver medal back in 2015 when he represented Ghana at the Africa Championship in Casablanca, Morocco is only a step away from reaching the medal zone.

He will now face Cuban amateur boxer Yosvany Veita on Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the last 16. 

The other two members of the Black Bombers at the games, Samuel Takyi and Shakul Samed will on Wednesday July 28, 2021 be in action at the round of 16 after they both drew a bye in the preliminary round.
