The President of the Ghana Fencing Association, Mr Mohammed Mahadi earlier today August 19, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Director General, Prof. Peter Twumasi of the National Sports Authority to officially inform him about his quest to contest as President of the African Fencing Confederation to be held in Bechar, Algeria on September 27, 2021.
Mr Mahadi who is also the Vice President of the African Fencing Confederation explained that Ghana over the years barely contests in such high profile positions which affects us in decision making at the continental level.
Ghana, Algeria and Senegal are the three African countries contesting.
He therefore believes his participation in this contest will go a long way to help Ghana.
He again reiterated that the initiative will enable the nation to prepare adequately ahead of the 2023 African Games to be held in Ghana which cannot be taken for granted.
The Director-General, Prof. Peter Twumasi, on behalf of the Government, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif and the sports fraternity commended him for having risen to such a high position and also pledged their unflinching support in his quest to become the President of the African Fencing Confederation and wished him well ahead of the election.
