The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi on Wednesday, September 16, 2021 inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for successful hosting of the 14th CANA African Junior and Senior Swimming and Open Water Championship to be hosted by the Ghana Swimming Association.
The competition, which is scheduled to take place at the ultra-modern Olympic – standard swimming pool inside the Bukom Boxing Arena and will feature about 30 Ghanaian swimmers will run from October 11, 2021 to October 17, 2021.
The 11-member LOC includes Frederick Acheampong (Chairman), Helena Williams (GSA), Charles Mensah (GSA), Ayishatu Farida Iddriss (GSA)Tamimu Issah, Saha Kambo-Lamptey (GSA), Mrs Delphina Quaye (GSA), Seth Nti (NSA) , Dinah Darkowaa Boateng (MOYS), Sirina Mohammed (MOYS), and Vivian Dougblor (NSA).
Over 50 countries in Africa are expected to take part in the one week tournament and will be welcomed here in Ghana to compete at both Senior and Junior Swimming categories as well as in open waters.
The NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi during the inauguration pledged the Sports Ministry and the NSA’s support to the Ghana Swimming Association to ensure a successful hosting of the Championship.
He also urged businesses and non-governmental organizations to partner the Ghana Swimming Association to make the competition a success.
On her part, Delphina Quaye, President of the Ghana Swimming Association, stressed that, the committee would be able to organize and stage the competition smoothly with the necessary support.
