The School of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in collaboration with the National Sports Authority (NSA) met with the press today October 27, 2021 to brief them on the upcoming workshop for Sports Administrators and Coaches in Ghana.
The Dean of the School, Prof.Eric K.Ofori, explained that the School for Sports and Exercise Medicine has the mandate to train middle level scientific people to help manage Sportsmen and women to prescribe the right program to facilitate sports and it facilities.It is also mandated to run short courses for the various sports disciplines in order to breach the gap between the industry players and the public.
Prof. Eric K. Ofori emphasized that, the purpose of the meeting was to inform the press on the maiden workshop taking off on the 4th and 5th of November 2021 at UHAS,Ho. The workshop aims at having a post mortem on Ghana’s participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages as well as proposing a better approach in future events taking into consideration the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, the 2023 African Games and the 2024 Paris Games. He stressed that, this workshop will take a scientific approach and bring onboard expertise to engage coaches, media, NSA staff and other stakeholders in preparing and diagnosing a better way of doing things to achieve greater results.
He stated that, since Ghana will be hosting the 2023 African Games, it will be prudent on our side to make earlier preparation to win more medals to our merit. He further added that, there will be presentation on Applied Sports Management, the history of Ghana at Olympic Games among other to try to dissert the performances so far, the pros and cons.
The Ag. Deputy Director-General (Technical) NSA, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr. on behalf of the Director-General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi and the management board extended greetings to dignitaries and press present at the conference. He explained that in line with the Authority’s vision under the leadership of Prof. Twumasi, they seek to ensure that all stakeholders of the Authority, especially, Coaches, Trainners, Sports Administrators, Sports Association Leadership and others, enhance their professional status in readiness to the demands that the soon to be passed Legistrative Instrument (LI) to the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934) would place on all players in the Sports industry in Ghana.
Mr Amponfi enphasised that it was for the above reason that the Director General and his management signed an MOU with UHAS for series of such Joint Scientific Sports Conferences and Workshops. He lauded the progress of work in the joint project and the pragmatism so far exhibited towards the impending event by both leadership of the Authority and the School of Sports and Exercise Medicine of the University of Health And Allied Sciences.
Mr Amponfi Jnr used the platform to appeal to the media to help promote the scheduled Scientific Conference for high participation by the targeted Stakeholders.
