Hasaacas Ladies Lift First Lady’s Cup After Beating Ampem Darkoa Ladies At The Accra Sports Stadium

CAF women’s champions league finalist, Hasaacas Ladies clinched their fifth trophy of the year when they defeated rivals Ampem Darkoa Ladies to lift the maiden edition of the First Lady’s Cup held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, December 10, 2021.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies had lost all three encounters before this game against Hasaacas Ladies across all competitions in 2021, following defeats in the Women’s Premier League final and the FA Cup final as well as the semifinal of the Super Cup.

Though, a very competitive football game displayed by both sides on the day, it was the Southerners; Hasaacas Ladies who bounced back from a goal down to stretch the game to penalty kicks to eventually seal the trophy over Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

In what turned to be an enthralling match from both teams on Friday, Sonia Opoku’s first half strike for Ampem Darkoa Ladies was cancelled out by Jafaru Rahama’s equalizer for Hasaacas Ladies in the second half.

The keenly contested game was tied at 1-1 after regulation time but Ghana Women’s Premier league champions, Hasaacas Ladies won the battle of supremacy once again over Ampem Darkoa Ladies when they emerged winners 5-4 on penalty shootouts to lift the trophy.

Hasaacas Ladies have thus added the First Lady’s Cup to the Women’s Premier League title, FA Cup, WAFU Zone B title and Super Cup title to their trophy cabinet in 2021.

The 2021 First Lady’s cup, organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana (GHALCA) was played to honor the first lady of Ghana, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the wife of the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Others partners include the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Present during the historic game were the First lady, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo who ceremoniously kicked start the match, H.E. Mrs. Samira Bawumia, wife of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Evans Opoku Bobie, Director General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi and Deputy Youth & Sports Minister, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie.

GFA President Kurt Okraku, GHALCA Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo, Minister of State (Works & Housing) Hon. Dr. Freda Prempeh and Mayor of Accra Madam Elizabeth Sackey were amongst the dignitaries to have graced the game.
