The newly elected President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Ato Van-Ess, and his able vice Alex Kukula pay a formal visit to the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi, and his deputies (Technical and Administration) Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr and Mr. Majid Bawa.
Prof Twumasi congratulated the newly voted executives on their just-ended election for being fair and void of litigation and applauded them also on their constitution that makes it possible for others to have the opportunity to contribute their quota.
Speaking at the meeting, he urged the Federation to stay disciplined in their endeavor and also target the grassroots where talents can be nurtured to become national assets. He mentioned the need to involve Primary schools at an earlier stage by making it attractive for them to participate in
He disclose that NSA will establish a working relationship to look at Basketball related infrastructural development. He also encouraged them to keep organizing more leagues within the schools. He equally called for more partnerships to create random outcomes within the discipline. He further stated that NSA is bringing onboard reformed ways to support the various federation under the Authority.
The President, Mr. Ato Van-Ess disclosed they recently signed a MOU with Lithuania which indicated their provision of technical supports with regard to training, coaching among others. He also mentioned their intent to host a University that will provide courses in basketball and extend these offers to the neighboring environment. He further stated plans that are within the pipeline to get males and females trained and hopefully deploy them into the national team
Prof.Twumasi assured them of the Authority’s unflinching supports to make available its facilities to them and any other help needed
The Deputy Director General-Technical, Mr. Kwame Amponfi on his part said, the NSA will provide support especially in the basketball court renovation by liaising with the appropriate units and also locating a feasible site to assist with the new project whilst the necessary paperwork and legal proceedings are underway.
