CAA REGION II U-18 And U-20 Championships Officially Opened In Cape Coast

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) region II U-18 and U-20 Championships opening ceremony was officially held on Thursday, May 19th, 2022 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The competition which takes place from May 19th to 21st, 2022 has 10 West African Countries participating including the host country, Ghana.

The colorful opening ceremony attracted a host of personalities including the Director General of NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi, who also represented the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif.
In his opening address, he welcomed the various contingents and assured them of the very best of Ghana’s hospitality.
Prof. Twumasi reminded them to expect the best atmosphere when the 2023 African Games takes place in Accra since H.E Nana Akufo Addo is putting measures in place to make sure all facilities to be used will meet CAF standards.

He further called on the athletes to put in their best to pick the medals at stake and advised the officials to be fair in their dealings to make the competition a memorable one.

The Chairman of the 7-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the games, Hon. Mohammed Adjei Sowah also in his welcome address urged the “contingents to feel at home” He described Cape Coast township as “a tourism city as well as a place for education.

The Western leg of the CAA U-20 and U-18 Athletics Championship is featuring the best of West African youth talent in athletics and this will serve as a qualification to the World Athletics U20 Championship to be hosted in Cali, Colombia later this year.

2nd Vice Chair for CAA LOC, Mr. Charles Osei Ashley, Ag. Regional Director, Alexander Tieku, Oti Regional Director, Madam Joyce Datsa and other important dignitaries
