Residents of Kotei in the Oforikrom constituency of the Ashanti region will soon have an ultra modern sports infrastructure after a ceremony was held on Sunday to cut sod for the construction of a groundbreaking artificial turf.
The project, which is located at the Unik Park in Kotei will have washrooms, fences, floodlights and a standard football field that can host international matches after completion.
According to managing director of construction firm, Best Limited, Nana Antwi, the facility will be completed in six months.
This will be the second astro turf of the municipality after the GUSS Sports Complex at KNUST.
Glitz CEO, Claudia Abena Kwarteng Lumor who’s a resident of Oforikrom and the brain behind the project made the initiative to collaborate with Ghana Gas and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to construct and astro turf at Kotei, aimed to unearthing football talents in the Ashanti Region.
In her keynote address, she expressed her appreciation to Ghana Gas and Ghana government for accepting her request to honor the people of Oforikrom constituency with an artificial playing field.
She believes, the construction of this facility is a sign of more developments for the community to improve the lives of the residents in the municipality.
Ashanti Regional Director of NSA, Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, who acted in the stead of special guest Prof Peter Twumasi, the NSA Boss, assured the community of the NSA’s support in the area of maintenance for the facility to live its life span.
He indicated, such facilities exist in the society to contribute to the sports development agenda and also, to help create employment for the long term which eventually curb social vices.
The Ashanti Regional Director of NSA was in the company of Mrs Linda Adwarkwa Yiadom, an administrator of NSA during the occasion.
Some dignitaries that honored the invitation for the sod cutting ceremony were former member of parliament of Oforikrom and former deputy Ashanti regional minster, Hon Elizabeth Agyeman, MCE of Oforikrom, Hon Abraham Kwame Antwi, chiefs of Kotei and representatives of Ghana Gas.
