National Fitness Day Attracts High Patronage in Ashanti Region
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium hosted the Ashanti regional edition of the maiden National Fitness Day.
The National Fitness Day activity was launched by Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, on August 19, 2022. The event was held across the country on Saturday.
The fitness day is an initiative from the government to be held across the country on a regular basis.
Participants in the Ashanti region converged at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Saturday, September 10, 2022 to be part of the National Fitness Day.
They walked through some principal streets of Kumasi including, Amakom, Asokwa, T.I Amass stretch before converging at the stadium for an aerobic session.
The exercise was graced by some notable personalities, including the Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, Municipal Chief Executive of Oforikrom, Abraham Antwi, and Chief Director of Ashanti regional coordinating council, Emelia Ayebeng Botcwey who represented Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah.
Ashanti Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Kojo Appiah led the NSA to successfully organize the Kumasi version.
He commended the government for the initiative and revealed, subsequent ones will be held monthly at the district and municipal levels.
Some patrons who took part of the event also appealed to the sports ministry to organize the health walk on a regular basis.
The objective of the initiative is to promote fitness and good health among the general public and to promote physical and mental health and wellbeing.
This month’s activity was held under the theme: “A healthy nation, a wealthy nation”.
