The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi hailed management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNSUT) and Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for readying sports facilities in time to host the ongoing 2022 GUSA Games.
The NSA Boss was a special guest during the opening ceremony of the inter university games on Monday, an event that attracted Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah, Vice Chancellors of the various schools, GUSA executives, chiefs, student athletes and a host of other notable dignitaries.
The 27th edition of the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games commenced at the Paa Joe Sports complex at KNUST on Sunday but a colorful opening ceremony was held on Monday to officially kick start the University games. The competition is expected to end on 19th November 2022.
GUSA games bounce back after a two year suspension due to the covid-19 pandemic and KNUST is hosting this year’s edition, their first time hosting the Games since 2012.
In his key note address during the ceremony, Prof Peter Twumasi commended management of the university for committing resources to ensure the University’s readiness in time to host the games.
He also appealed to the universities of the need to institute sports science and technology fair/conference annually to encourage the local industry to contribute to production of sports wears, sports equipment and infrastructure as well as technical training to create jobs and livelihoods for our people aside health and peace promotion.
The NSA Boss was in the company of Ashanti Regional Director of NSA, Emmanuel Kojo Appiah and other staff from the region’s Directorate.
