In his first official interaction with the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Dodzie Numekevor, the newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Authority, led a pivotal meeting on April 2nd, 2024.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce himself to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association and also discuss pertinent issues that affect both institutions. The two leaders discussed, among other things, the state of pitches in Ghana, the need to pull resources together to develop football in the country, and a strategy to get football fans attracted to the various league centres. One notable issue discussed was the need to develop the Tema sports stadium to alleviate pressure on the Accra sports stadium.
During the engaging dialogue, both parties emphasized the significance of fostering a strong working relationship. They acknowledged that collaboration and cooperation are fundamental to the continuous improvement of football in Ghana.
A crucial aspect addressed during the meeting was the need for enhanced communication channels between the National Sports Authority and the Football Association. Both sides agreed that effective communication would lead to better coordination and the alignment of shared goals and initiatives.
Furthermore, Mr. Numekevor made a notable suggestion, urging football clubs to consider covering the costs of electricity and water usage during their matches. This approach, he explained, would aid in managing operational expenses more efficiently for the National Sports Authority.
The leaders agreed to meet regularly so that issues of industry concerns can be identified and resolved with dispatch. The Director General promised to reciprocate the kind gesture durinf which the two institutions could delve deeper into specific areas of collaboration and cooperation for the collective good of both institutions.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the NSA, Mr Kweku Agyei Larbi, Chief Accountant of NSA Mr. Kurtz Okraku, President of the GFA, Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the FA, and other executive members. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to fostering a conducive environment for football development in Ghana.
