The Director-General of The National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi has urged sports journalists in Ghana to help make various sporting activities attractive in the country.
Speaking at a ceremony to induct the newly elected Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) executives in Accra yesterday, Professor Twumasi congratulated the newly elected executives and added that, he was concerned with the numerous negative stories that are written about sports in the country, thus appealed to sports journalists to consciously project the positive image of sports in order to attract sponsorships from corporate organizations.
He further charged them to maintain the high standards of sports journalism and pledged that the National Sports Authority will always open its doors to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.
Ace sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah will serve as the President of SWAG for another four years term with Maurice Quansah as vice President. Other executives elected are Charles Osei Asibey (General secretary), Thomas Boakye-Agyemang (Deputy General Secretary), Rosalind Amoh (Treasurer), with Otuo Acheampong and Ohene Brenya Bampoe serving as Executive council members for the next four years.
Present at the ceremony was the Board Chairman of The NSA, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, Deputy Minister of Information Pius Enam Hadzide, President of The Ghana Olympic Committee Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of The Ghana Journalists Association Mr Roland Affail Monney and Mr Ray Quarcoo, Chief patron of SWAG.
