The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi represented the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Isaac Asiamah, yesterday at the funeral of Coach Ben Simons Acheampong organized at Heroes Park, Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Coach Simons played for the Black Stars and together won the 1963 and 1965 AFCON trophies; and also played for many other football clubs including Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Real Republicans. Born in 1936, Coach Simons was later trained as coach and led many teams including Kumasi Corners Stone FC, GIHOC Stars, and Kotoko SC. May his gentle soul rest with the Lord.
