NSA Begins Vetting Of Elite Athletes

The National Sports Authority on Wednesday 22nd July, 2020 began the vetting process for athletes selected by their various federations for the Youth Employment Agency and The Authority’s stimulus package at the Accra Spots Stadium.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi, in his opening remarks charged the Committee to execute their duties with utmost fairness to all athletes who appear before them in order to produce a list of beneficiaries that meet the requirements enshrined in the signed agreement between NSA and YEA.

In a related development, Mr. Kwame Baa Mensa, the chairman of the vetting committee, the process forms part of the requirements in the MoU between the YEA and NSA, which seeks to support elite athletes.

In an interview with some of the athletes at the vetting grounds, they expressed their gratitude to the state for coming to their aid in this era of covid-19 pandemic. They said that the package will boost their confidence to give of their best in any local or international competitions.

Other members of the committee include Mr. Jeffrey Manzan Owusu, Mr. Emmanuel Jackson Afari and Ms. Afia Serebour.

The NSA and YEA a fortnight ago signed an agreement to support Ghanaian athletes as part of government’s stimulus package for sports.

The vetting is expected to end in August 2020.
