Ghana Science Assoc, CoS- Knust Ends Webinar Conference With NSA

The two day 9th GSA Research Seminar and Poster Presentations ended today, Wednesday 29th July, 2020 with more presentations by experts in technology and innovation.

Ms. Philippina Frimpong, the deputy head of administration at the National Sports Authority in her presentation entitled, “doing sports in a pandemic era; how science can help” outlined guidelines that can be adopted to ensure safety of athletes and spectators, should football return in this Covid 19 pandemic period.

She said players who are expected to move into camping before competitions should be screened so as to ascertain their Covid 19 health status. Ms. Frimpong however, stated that athletes who will commute from home should be tested and monitored using the World Anti-doping protocols to test and ascertain their “whereabouts”. Penalties will be slapped on athletes who do not meet the “whereabouts” test.

The conference also saw presentations from Dr. Emmanuel Mfum-Mensah, who spoke on the impact of the pandemic on education, Dr. Kingsley Badu also touched on the nature of viruses, whiles Ms. Alexandrina Tsimese presented a paper on the production and evaluation of gluten free cookies.

There were presentation of posters from the experts and awards were presented to individuals with good posters and presentations at the end of the webinar.

The webinar was organized by the Ghana Science Association (GSA) in collaboration with the College of Sciences, KNUST and the National Sports Authority (NSA) under the theme “using science, technology and innovation in the current pandemic and beyond”.
