The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority (NSA) on Thursday, August 19, 2021 embarked on a massive clean-up exercise at the Baba Yara Sports stadium and its surroundings in Kumasi.
The cleanup exercise was organized to promote a clean and healthy environment as authorities await the official commissioning and handing over of the Baba Yara Stadium that has been under renovation for over a year now.
In a quest to also offer exceptional services at the famous stadium in Kumasi when it’s ready, the exercise, which started within the stadium and ended up at its outskirts saw staff of the Authority led by the Acting Regional Director, Mr Edmond Appiah partake in the clean-up exercise
With the first phase of the renovation near completion, it became necessary for the staff to take this proactive initiative and prepare to take over the full renewed facility which is expected to be commissioned soon.
The activity essentially involved sweeping the stadium and streets, cleaning cobwebs, picking plastics, weeding of bushy areas, dredging gutters among other activities.
Speaking after the exercise, the Acting Regional Director, Mr Edmond Appiah who actively participated in the entire exercise revealed that, the activity was part of an initiative to achieve one of its target of making the stadium and its environs clean and less filthy.
Mr Edmond Appiah also added, himself together with his outfit thought it best to intervene and help tackle the issue of sanitation at the stadium and uphold the acceptable standard before the facility is officially made accessible for sporting activities.
The Acting Director at the end of the exercise thanked the general staff on behalf of the Estate Department for their contribution during the exercise and helping to achieve their aim.
Some staff of the Authority who were encouraged by the excellent leadership the management showed during the exercise admitted, such a clean-up show will even imbibe them with the habit of cleaning their frontages and backyards at their various homes.
As part of the work conducted by the general staff, the clean-up exercise brought about socialization and harmony among the staff and an opportunity was presented for the newly recruited staff to mingle and get to know each other.
