2022 National Cross Country Launched In Accra

The National Cross Country 2022 was launched today February 9th, 2022 at the Media center of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi, officially launched the event dubbed, “Running towards Accra 2023 African Games” which would be held in Akim Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Prof. Twumasi in his keynote address, expressed his excitement in the upcoming event and stated that, it is a good timing for talent unleashing as Ghana prepares to host the 13th African games 2023.

For this reason, the NSA has taken it upon itself to scout for long distance runners whose talents will be nurtured and transitioned into the various federation to form part of the national team to compete on all platforms.

He mentioned that, this years event will be unique due to it’s collaboration with the 2023 Local Organisation Committee (LOC).

He further explained that, sports infrastructure has been a visionary agenda of H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo and thanks to him, the Baba Yara Sports stadium is fully equipped with an 8 lane athletic oval which can assist in training sessions for these athletes.

He indicated that, this year’s prize packages would be significantly enhanced by which would be presented by the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia at the presidency after the event.

Prof. Peter Twumasi, unveiled the track suits for all the 16 regions and their colours plus the running kits.

The Deputy Director General (Technical) of NSA, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr. in his speech, gave a background history of the past events and stated that, this year’s event will commence on the 24th to 26th of February 2022.

He urged athletes from all the 16 regions to participate in this event and mentioned that, there will be reps from the Ministry, NSA, LOC, Members of Parliament among other stakeholders .

He further mentioned that, there would be provisions for medicals, public safety protocols, and the Ghana Police Service for the event as well.

The Deputy Director General of NSA- Administration, Mr. Majeed Bawa on his part pleaded with the media to promote the event and adviced them not to be bias with some lesser known sports.

The LOC Chairman Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare equally commended the NSA for reviving the events and also urged the media to highlight on the positives to develop the sport.

Present at the launch were some important personalities, the Eastern Regional Director of sports, Member of Parliament for the Akyim Oda, Dr.Amui, Mr. Gifty Fianu, and Mr. Samuel Ayeh.
