On Tuesday, August, 23, 2022, the Ghana Ski and Sliding Federation in association with National Sports Authority (NSA) inaugurated executives of the Ashanti Region, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The roller Skiing, an emerging sports discipline in Ghana which is being governed by the Ghana Ski Federation was launched in tune with the regional NSA’s vision of introducing other sports disciplines throughout the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Management of the Ashanti Regional Directorate of NSA, led by Regional Boss, Emmanuel Kojo Appiah and Simon Koku Gluikpor, Head of Technical Department and members of the Ski federation were present during the short ceremony.
The Ghana Ski and Sliding Federation (GSF) President, Godwin Vasco Nukunu who doubles as the Vice President of African Ski Confederation (ASC) gave a brief history of Ski and showed videos of occasions, Ghana participated at the winter Olympics in Skiing.
In his presentation to the audience, he displayed videos of, Carlos Maeder & Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong; the first Ghanaian Skiers to participate in Olympics for this discipline.
The Chairman of the event, the Ashanti Regional Director of NSA, Emmanuel Kojo Appiah introduced the Regional Executives of the Ashanti Regional Association of Ski and Sliding Sports to the National President of the Ghana Ski Federation to be sworn into office.
Members, sworn in during the inauguration are Richard Boateng-President, Sylvester Nigel Fosu-Vice President, Daniel Jatuat-General Secretary, Justice Antwi-Organizer, Adeline Dzomeku-Technical Director and Lawrencia Adusei-Treasurer.
The executives pledged to help train the youth of Ashanti in Ski and Sliding in order to get athletes to represent Ghana in any international competition.
The whole event ended with a remark from the Chairperson, accepting and pledging the support of the authority and the entire region and encouraging the sworn-in executives to work earnestly in assuring a massive participation from the region.
