Emmanuel Kojo Appiah Represents Director General Of NSA At 2022 GUSA Launch At KNUST

Ashanti Regional Director of NSA, Emmanuel Kojo Appiah on Friday acted in the stead of Director General of NSA, Professor Peter Twumasi during the official launch of the 2022 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games at KNUST.

The GUSA games make a return in November 2022 after a two year hibernation period due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 27th Edition of the Games, to be hosted by KNUST was therefore launched in a colorful ceremony held at the Great Hall, KNUST.

The occasion, which was attended by several dignitaries of the school and executives of GUSA, witnessed the outdooring of key elements for the games including the official and mascot for the games.

Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Boss of NSA was thrilled to be at the event on Friday where he expressed satisfaction of the sports infrastructural improvement at KNUST ahead of the Games.

He pledged the NSA’s commitment and support to GUSA during the games and added, the authority is always available to provide assistance to the University sport’s governing body.

The official logo of the games was unveiled which signifies diversity under KNUST’s authority in support of the theme for the games, “Harnessing sporting talents of students for national development through healthy competition using science and technology”.
 
In addition, the official mascot for the games, Nyansagoro which features a cheerful pot of flames was unveiled at the launch.
 
Delivering the welcome address at the event, the local organizing committee Chairman, Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo expressed his gratitude to the attendants of the launching ceremony.

He said that there have been improvement with regards to sporting facilities from the last time the university hosted the games in 2012.

An estimated number of 4000 athletes and officials are expected to be present at the games scheduled between 4th November, 2022 and 19th November 2022.

Prof Ellis acknowledged how the recent global economic crisis has adversely affected preparations towards the games but praised Ghana Gas for the efforts in aiding KNUST to prepare towards hosting the games.

He further assured that, the global economic crisis would not limit KNUST from hosting the best games.

The Dean of Quality Assurance, Prof. Jerry John Konyoh led a team of officials of the university to unveil the official logo, mascot, slogan and theme for the games.
