USE 2023 NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY TO MOTIVATE THE YOUTH TO PARTICIPATE IN SPORTS –  NORTHERN REGIONAL MINISTER 

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Alhaji Shani AlhassanShaibu has admonished the organisers of the 2023 National Cross Country to use the Event as an avenue to motivate the youth  in the country to participate in more sporting activities. 

He reiterated his Support for the Event adding that he hopes this year’s edition would unearth more budding talents for the Country.

The Minister said this when the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi paid a courtesy call on him in his office ahead of the inauguration of the Local Organising Committee(LOC) for the 2023 National Cross Country.

The Marathon which is hosted annually is aimed at unearthing talents as well as ushering in the Sporting Calendar for the year. The 2023 Edition is scheduled to be held in Savelugu, Northern Region from Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, 26 2023.

The Minister was grateful for the visit noting that as an ardent sports enthusiast he would want to see more sporting events being organised in the region.

On his part, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi indicated that, it is prudent for the Authority to establish a Local Organising Committee(LOC) with in-depth knowledge of the region and municipality to partner the National Planning Committee for a successful organisation of the Marathon, adding that he hopes the LOC would take advantage of the event to showcase the beautiful Municipality of Savelugu to boost tourism in the area.

Present at the brief meeting were, the Regional CoordinatingDirector, Alhaji Alhassan Isahaaku, Mr. Kwame Amponfi Jnr, Head of Technical at the National Sports Authority andSalamatu Alhassan, Regional Sports Director of the National Sports Authority.
