NSA rewards Fencing Team After Winning 16 medals at Cadet Junior Championship

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi has pledged an amount of Ten Thousand Cedis to the Fencing Team after winning 16 medals at the just-ended Cadet Junior Africa Fencing Championship.

The team led by its president, Mr. Mohammed Mahdi on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, paid a courtesy call to the Director General at his office in Accra.

The purpose of the visit was to officially present the medals they won at the competition to him and also to thank the Director General for his support towards the hosting of the event in Ghana for the second time.

On his part, Prof. Twumasi commended the Fencing Association for winning medals in the just-ended championship. He also commended the organizers for a successful event. He reiterated the importance of the event because it is a good preparation for the 2023 African Games to be hosted in Ghana, now slated for 2024.

He also seized the opportunity to have one-on-one interaction with the fencers. He advised them to take their education seriously as well as to make time to practice their Fencing skills.

He said this will enable them to represent Ghana at the international level. He pledged an amount of Ten Thousand Cedis to the team to enable them to take care of some of their expenses.

The president of the Fencing Association, Mr. Mohammed Mahdi expressed his deepest gratitude to the Director General for his support and for always being available to receive them anytime they call on him.

He reiterated the projection of the team from the previous competition which was hosted at Cape Coast. The association’s president mentioned that they won 11 medals (no gold) in 2021 and 16 in 2023 (2 gold, 6 silver, and 8 bronze).
