National Cross Country 2022 – Director General of the National Sports Authority pays a working visit to Akim Oda.

On Thursday, 10th February, 2022, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi paid a working visit to Akim Oda, venue for the this year’s National Cross Country championship. He had a fruitful meeting with the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Adu and staff of the Coordinating Council. 

In her opening address, Hon. Victoria Adu said it was a honour for the Municipality to host this prestigious National sporting event.

She went on to assure the Director General of her outfit’s readiness to ensure that the event is organized successfully.


In his address, Prof. Peter Twumasi highlighted on the criteria for bidding of the event, which Akim Oda came tops. He further touched on the past successive events, which began in 2019 at Mporhor, in the then western region of Ghana.

He further stated that this year’s competition is unique with the full collaboration of the Ghana Athletics Association and the Local Organizing Committee of the 2023 African Games outfits respectively. Furthermore, the event has also received a major boost, with the endorsement and Patronage of the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia. Prof. Twumasi finally appealed to all and sundry to support the event for it to be a grand success.

On his part, the Deputy Director General (technical) briefed the gathering on the technical aspects of the event, with other sub-committee leaders also presenting their reports during at the meeting.

The delegation then proceeded to the official residence of the Queen mother of the Kotoku Traditional area, Nana Akua Asantewaa III, to pay a courtesy call on her and to officially inform her of the  National Cross Country 2022 event, scheduled to take place in Her Royal Majesty’s jurisdiction. She expressed her joy upon receiving the information and gave her blessings to the event. She further gave an assurance to the delegation that as a sportswoman herself, she will personally take part in the competition. She also used the occasion to encourage everyone to take keen interest in sporting activities.

Present at the meeting included the head of monitoring and evaluation, Mr. Kwame Baa Mensah, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, GAA Secretary General, Miss Afia Serebour, secretary to the National planning committee and Mr. Charles Amofah, Head of Public Relations.
